MSBDR responds to storm
damage in North Mississippi
Mississippi Baptist Disaster Relief (MSBDR) has deployed Assessors/Chaplain teams using local resources in Tate, Desoto, Marshall, Benton, and Tippah Counties. This area was hit by at least two tornadoes and high straight line winds Wednesday night. Damage is concentrated near Senatobia (app. 25 homes), Slayden (75 homes), and Three Forks/Walnut Lakes (20 homes). All numbers are preliminary estimates. In addition, the Benton/Tippah Association Chainsaw Team had begun meeting debris removal needs in the Three Forks area but was forced to stop by deteriorating weather conditions on Thursday. Conditions are more favorable today but are forecast to return to storms late today and tomorrow. Heavy rains have also affected ground conditions limiting the use of heavy equipment. As a result of the conditions and the severe weather forecast, MSBDR is slowing the response of additional Chainsaw personnel until early next week. In the meantime, MSBDR has requested the LaBelle Haven Feeding Team (LHBC/Desoto-Tate) prepare 500 meals in support of direct feeding through Slayden Baptist Church for lunch on Friday. The American Red Cross will begin feeding through their network Friday evening.
